Curtain Installation Guide

Installing your custom curtains is easier than you think. Follow our step-by-step guide to hang your curtains professionally and achieve a polished, finished look.

Tools & Materials You'll Need

Before you begin, gather these tools: Drill with appropriate drill bits, Screwdriver, Measuring tape, Pencil, Level, Step ladder, Stud finder (recommended), Wall anchors (if not mounting into studs)

Step 1: Choose Your Mounting Location

Decide where you want to mount your curtain rod. For a standard look, mount the rod 4-6 inches above the window frame. For a dramatic, ceiling-height look, mount closer to the ceiling. Extend the rod 3-6 inches beyond each side of the window frame for optimal coverage.

Step 2: Mark Your Bracket Positions

Use a measuring tape and pencil to mark where your brackets will go. Ensure brackets are level using a level tool. Mark the exact screw hole positions. For heavy curtains, locate wall studs using a stud finder and mount brackets into studs when possible.

Step 3: Install the Brackets

Drill pilot holes at your marked positions. If mounting into drywall without studs, insert wall anchors first. Attach brackets using screws, ensuring they're tight and secure. Double-check that brackets are level before fully tightening.

Step 4: Hang the Curtain Rod

Place the curtain rod onto the installed brackets. Ensure the rod is secure and level. Tighten any set screws on the brackets to hold the rod in place.

Step 5: Hang Your Curtains

Thread your curtain panels onto the rod (for rod pocket or back tab styles) or attach rings/clips (for grommet or pinch pleat styles). Distribute panels evenly across the rod. Adjust the positioning until curtains hang evenly and look balanced.

Step 6: Final Adjustments

Step back and check that curtains hang evenly and at the correct length. Adjust the rod position if needed. Steam or iron curtains to remove any shipping wrinkles. Arrange the folds and pleats for a polished appearance.

Installation Tips

Always mount brackets into wall studs when possible for maximum support. Use appropriate wall anchors rated for the weight of your curtains and rod. Measure twice, drill once to avoid mistakes. For wide windows, use a center support bracket to prevent rod sagging. Allow curtains to hang for 24-48 hours before final adjustments as fabric may settle.
